The perfect Sunday night facial... Karen Heath Beauty Writer

Sunday nights are the perfect time to relax and give yourself a facial.

It’s time to wind-down and prepare your mind and skin for the week ahead, it’s time to double-cleanse, double-mask, peel and moisturise so you wake up on a Monday with clean, hydrated, fresh skin.

To set the atmosphere..

Put on your favourite slow music or use the time to enjoy a podcast and mark the start of ‘me-time’ by lighting a relaxing scented candle, such as the super calming AromaWorks Serenity blend Candle, a delicious mix of Lemongrass, Neroli and Sweet Geranium.

First up it’s time to double cleanse..

The cornerstone of every good skin regimen and something skin experts now recommend. It involves cleansing your face in two steps, first by using an oil-based cleanser such as Skin and Tonic Steam Clean or Elemental Herbology’s Purity and Soothe Cleansing balms. These balm formulas turn to Oil on your skin and come with a little cloth that you dampen with warm water to wipe off the dirt and grime from your face. The oily texture makes this an ideal time to massage your face to bring nourishing blood to the surface.

For the second part of the cleanse..

Choose a water-based cleanser such as SkinCeuticals Cleanse Gentle Cleanser or Thalgo Foaming Micellar Cleansing Lotion. If you like an exfoliant then choose Ren Micro Polish Cleanser, a 2-in-1 exfoliator with Enzymes and Acids to gently loosen dead skin cells and buff the skin. Mix a small amount with a tiny bit of water to create a paste and massage onto your face with your fingertips working upwards from your neck. Make sure you get into all the nooks of your face and then rinse and pat dry.

Masks are perfect to apply after exfoliation as the ingredients in the mask can work so much more effectively on the skin..

Pick masks that are suitable for your skin. Oily skins will benefit from Element Herbology’s Facial Detox Purifying Face Mask, a clay mask with anti-bacterial properties particularly helpful for congested skin. Skin that is sensitive and stressed will reap the calming action of Ren’s Evercalm Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask with bio-actives to comfort and strengthen the skin barrier. Dehydration can affect all skin types and ages and if this is what you need to tackle then the intensely hydrating SkinCeuticals Moisturizing Hydrating Mask with B5 is packed with hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5 to help establish the water balance in the skin.

While your mask is doing its thing..

It’s the perfect time to take a warm bath, to relax your body while the steam from the water will help the mask activate. Remember to remove your mask gently in the same way you would remove your cleanser.

Finally..

It’s time to apply treatment products targeted to the special needs of your skin. Serums, Boosters and Hydrators can all be applied during the night as well as the daytime as long as they don’t contain as SPF. During the night the skin isn’t bombarded by pollution and UV light and this gives it time to repair itself.  Image Skincare Vital C Hydrating Repair Creme is packed full of nourishing ingredients such as ceramides to help with moisturisation and vitamins to nourish. Maturer skins will benefit from Ren Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial which claims to smooth wrinkles by up to 18% while Hydropeptide Power Serum has collagen boosting, wrinkle relaxing peptides to boost firmness and volume. Then it’s time for the best skin treatment of all.. a full night’s sleep!
