Top tips for summer skincare

For many people, summer is the best time of year. Sun, holidays, swimming pools and the sea! What could be better?

But is the long sunny days, and regular time spent in and out of the water good for our skin? How can we look after our skin in the summer and what products can you use to help keep your skin in great condition?

Sun protection

Wear sun cream daily. Yes, daily! Even if it is overcast, the UV rays still penetrate the clouds and can cause damage to your skin. We have an amazing range of sun protection from Heliocare available that works perfectly for all types of skin, even sensitive skin.

Sometimes sunburn still happens, no matter how careful we are! Should this happen Aloe vera is great for providing almost instant relief to the pain and discomfort from sunburn. Aloe vera is great for moisturising the sin which can help to avoid the peeling you may experience from sunburn.

On top of this, wearing loose clothing and applying moisturiser to damp skin can aid healing!

Australian BodyCare have an amazing skin lotion which is perfect as an after-sun lotion due to it containing tea tree oil, another ingredient that is great for sunburn!

Exfoliating removes dead and dulling skin debris from the surface of your skin, this can prevent your pores becoming clogged and will improve the hydration you receive from your moisturiser. When’s the best time to exfoliate your skin? In the morning prior to toning and moisturising. Added bonus – Your makeup will last longer on exfoliated skin!

Just because you feel sweaty due to the heat, doesn’t mean your skin is being moisturised.  In fact, getting in and out of the water and excessive sweating can dry your skin out! Invest in a good moisturiser that can re-balance the levels in your skin and protect your skin from pollutants and chemicals. Gallinee have an amazing hydrating face cream which hydrates, tones and helps to support your skin’s good bacteria while nourishing and protecting!

As we mentioned, your skin can become sweaty in the heat. This can lead to a buildup of sweat that needs to be washed away. Invest in a purifying facial cleanser that you can use in the morning and at night. Elemental Herbology have this great cool and clear foaming facial cleanser which is amazing for oily or congested skin!

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is important year-round, but especially in the summer months! Vitamin C helps to prevent hyperpigmentation and improve fine lines. You can get a number of products that contain vitamin C, from serums to creams that all work to improve your skin’s appearance and aid in rejuvenating your skin.

Stay in the shade

Everyone’s heard that the midday sun (from 10am-2pm) is the strongest and generally should be avoided! If you’re out in the sun, try wearing a wide brimmed hat, sunglasses or staying under an umbrella. If you have to be out in the sun, remember to wear sun cream!

Stay hydrated!

Our skin needs to remain hydrated year-round, but especially in the summer. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day (more if you’re enjoying a holiday cocktail round the pool!) Your skin will look great and it can also help your skin recover from sunburn!

Don’t forget your lips

Often forgotten, our lips need care and attention during the summer too! They need protecting from the sun just as much as the rest of your skin, look into purchasing a lip balm formulated with SPF. This Hydropeptide lip shield has an SPF of 15 and is resistant to water! Perfect for your holidays!
